Maybird Classic Sailing

What you should expect

‘Sailing intensifies life’ Sir Francis Chichester
Blocks

Sailing Maybird requires teamwork and a willingness to be involved. You will feel very much part of the crew, not merely a passenger, and technique is more important than strength. No previous experience is necessary as full instruction on classic sailing of a traditional gaff rigged ketch is given.

Sailing terms like hauling on the throat and sweating the peak will soon be part of your understanding and knowledge gained from the traditional sailing experience. Great thing about Maybird is that, because there are only a maximum of 8 on board, you feel useful, a necessary part of the operation, even if it does extend to polishing the brass and the much appreciated help with the washing-up from time to time.

Maybird is fully equipped in excess of statutory requirements and is MCA coded to Category 2 – the UK standard for charter vessels operating up to 60 NM from a safe haven. Maybird has the most advanced safety and navigation equipment including ISO 9650 Solas B liferaft, automatic lifejackets and harnesses, EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), Radar and DSC VHF Radio.

We are very conscientious about the welfare of our Guests. At the beginning of each trip, we ensure that the new crew are given a safety briefing and practical explanation on procedures and equipment.
